Zumbi of Zion-I, 50 Cent, and Mobb Deep touCH upon the origins and importance of their stage names.

A lot of people refer to me as “CHilla” but I know only very few actually know where the name originates from. Its pretty obvious but for those that don’t know, and this is something I’ve very rarely done, I’ll explain it.
First of all the reason behind my insistence that the “H” be capital is because “CH” is my last name’s initials. Simple as that.
Basically, as an aspiring producer, I didn’t want to use my given name. I have had different monikers in the past (some of them pretty lame), but this one kinda stuck. At its purest form it IS an homage to the late great producer J-Dilla.
Weirdly enough it started off as just a display name I had used for myspace (remember that CHildren?), but the name just ended up sticking around. In the beginning it was “K-CHilla,” but in the last couple years I had dropped the “K” as to try to lean further away from the resembling names.
Though the name was created out of respect to someone else it remains because its a constant reminder of where I want to go and where I want to be with my dreams.
Like the artists in the video above stated a name is important - its your identity. It signifies where you come from and who you are; whether it be as deep as Zumbi’s explanation or more basic like 50’s, that’s who they remain. CHilla is who I am, and that will never CHange.
